Anonymous. Volumes II and III are dated 1792. The "new system" is that of Buffon and his Histoire naturelle, which was completed postumously in 1804 but began to be translated and abridged in English from 1762 (q.v.). Each volume has a general title-page as above and a separate title-page, that in volume I reading 'A New System Of The Natural History Of Quadrupeds.', vol. II '... Of Birds.', and vol. III '... Of Fishes And Insects.'. The plates in vol. I are numbered I--XLVI with a bis pl. XIX, those in vol. II, I--LVI with bis and tris plates XXII and those in vol. III, I--XXXI and I--XIII. ESTC n11120.

Copy Notes Volume III bound (1) with a 16-pp. catalogue of books printed for A. Strahan and T. Cadell dated 1793 (q.v.). Vol. I inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper John Soane and in pencil 3 Vols / Numerous Plates and bookseller's codes, probably Thomas Boone's, suggesting that this is the three-volume set of 'Natural history' bought from Boone on 9 June 1804 for 18s. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.1.4).
