Gunter's Works were first published in 1653. The words 'Arithmetick, Geometry', are gathered by a right brace, the words 'Dialling, and Fortification'. by a left brace, and the words 'Astronomy, Navigation', are enclosed within brackets on the title-page (sig. [A3]). The additional engraved title-page (sig. [A2]) has the title in letterpress within a masked oval compartment, with engraved imprint: 'Printed for Fr: Eglesfeild ... 1673'. 'The Sector Altered; And Other Scales Added: ... Invented and written by Mr. Samuel Foster, ...' and 'The Cross-Staff, In Three Books' each have separate dated title-pages; pagination and register are continuous to the end of the 'Second Book Of the Cross-Staff'. 'The Third Book of the Use of the Lines of Numbers, Sines and Tangents, for the drawing of Hour-lines on All Sorts of Planes' has caption title and begins new pagination and register (sig. 3A--4E4). 'Canon Triangulorum' has a separate title-page, dated 1672, and begins the [172] p. unpaginated sequence. Printer's name Andrew Clarke from Wing; 'The Sector Altered' and 'Canon Triangolorum' title-pages have 'Andrew Clark'. Half-title between rules.
