Forms no. I--II of Murray's (later Tegg's) 'Family Library', published by John Murray between 1829 and 1834. This was the second John Murray's venture in producing cheaper books (largely new works rather than reprints) for a wider reading public. The first edition of Lockhart's history of Napoleon was also published in 1829. The engravings on steel and wood are by William Finden and Thompson, respectively, and the woodcuts from designs of George Cruikshank. In volume II, p. iv is misnumbered as 'vi'. Index at end of vol. II.
