[Works. 1788--1793]
Œuvres complètes de J.J. Rousseau. Nouvelle édition, classée par ordre de matières, et ornée de quatre-vingt-dix gravures. ...
[Paris]: [Poinçot], 1788--93.
38 vols in 37 ; 20.5 cm. (8º)

Catalogued from half-title. Edited by L.S. Mercier, G. Brizard and F.H.S. de l'Aulnaye. The individual volumes and works have volume half-titles as above and their own engraved title-pages and letterpress half-titles. Tome [37] is wholly engraved, with two engraved title-pages reading 'Recueil des Œuvres de Musique ... Tome Ier.' and 'Les Consolatio[ns] Des Miseres De Ma Vie Ou Recueil De Romances', and a combined 'Table Des Romances' comprising the contents ' ... des Deux Volumes réunis'. Tome [38], the volume of hand-coloured plates to accompany tomes 5--6, has a special title-page with the imprint of Poinçot dated 1789, reading: Recueil de plantes coloriées pour servir a l'intelligence des Lettres élémentaires sur la botanique. Tomes 11, 14, 18 and 32 have integral [2] or [4]-pp. prospectuses charting the progress of publication, apologizing for price increases and directing subscribers to 'Poinçot, libraire' at the end. These are dated 21 November 1791, 30 October 1792, 15 July 1792 and 'mois frimaire, l'an 3me de la république' respectively; the last announces that 32 volumes had been published including one volume of 'Romances', presumably tome [37], and that 'Les six derniers volumes qui vont paroítre, y compris le 2me de romances, étant presque finis, paroítront d'ici à trois mois.' There was also to be a supplement of variants, additions and corrections. It is not clear whether the second volume of romances forms part of tome [37], or was never completed, as no separately bound copy has been traced. Contents: T. 1--4. La nouvelle Héloïse -- T. 5--6. Lettres élémentaires sur la botanique -- T. 7--9. Politique -- T. 10--14. Émile -- T. 15--17. Science, arts et belles lettres -- T. 18. Théatre et poesies -- T. 19--22.
