I, pp. [xvii]--lvi. With a table of contents for all six volumes in vol. I, and a chronological table and general index in vol. VI.

Copy Notes Marks of emphasis in pencil in the margins of the index, indicating passages relevant to architecture e.g. '[Cleopatra] ... Builds several momuments, as repositories of her wealth'; 'Coffins, two of stone made for Numa, ...'; 'Concave mirrours, the vestal virgins recovered fire by them ...', etc. This was evidently the copy used by Soane to compile extensive notes from Plutarch dated 11--17 April 1817.
