Arthur Bedford had been Chaplain to the Prince of Wales (George II). The first authorized edition of Newton's Chronology, 1728 (q.v.; large paper issue, q.v.) was dedicated to Queen Caroline who as Princess of Wales had commissioned him to publish a revised version of a work that had preoccupied him over some years. Bedford, who was working on his own Scripture chronology demonstrated by astronomical calculations (published by subscription in 1730), objected to the anti-Trinitarian implications of Newton's work.
