The edition statement is at the head of the title. Originally published in 1788. A chronicle of the scandalous life, trial, and will of Elizabeth Chudleigh (1720--1788), Countess of Bristol and sometimes styled the Duchess of Kingston. She was secretly married to Augustus John Hervey (later 3rd Earl of Bristol) with whom she had a child but they separated. She later married the Duke of Kingston and became involved in a bigamy suit. A beautiful woman who delighted in fashionable balls and scandalous behavior, notoriously appearing at one dress ball as Iphigenia undressed for sacrifice, she was a favourite at European courts. Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting the engraved plate of the Duchess in the character of Iphigenia. Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper 2/6.

Binding C18th sprinkled sheep, gilt-ruled spine, paper spine-label with MS. title in ink: 'Duchess of Kingston 1790'.
