Each volume is printed in 2 parts with separate pagination and title-page, but numbered consecutively; parts 1--2 and 6 are printed by S. & B. Bentley, parts 3--5 and 7--8 by B. Bensley. The imprint is corrected in parts 2--7. Parts 1--7 have separate indexes. The work in French (q.v.) and translation was apparently one of the best sellers of the 19th century.
Binding C19th maroon calf, diced covers with gilt-ruled borders, blind and gilt double-ruled spines. Bound in eight volumes.
