The printer's colophon in vol. I is dated 1802. First published in Edinburgh, 1801; the third edition of the Encylopaedia Britannica, partly edited by Gleig after the premature death of Colin Macfarquhar who had edited the first twelve volumes, was published in eighteen volumes in 1797 (q.v.). The engravings are signed by Daniel Lizars. Volume I covers 'Abaciscus' to 'Impulsion'; vol. II, 'Increment' to 'Zemindars'.

Copy Notes Bought from Floyer as volumes XIX and XX in a uniformly bound set with the third edition of the Encyclopaedia (q.v.) for £36 15s., 20 June 1803. (Acct Book 1792--1805, loose sheet).

Binding C19th diced russia calf, gilt double-ruled and roll-tooled borders, gilt-tooled spines, marbled edges to match the endpapers.
