First edition 1751. A variant has 'Vaillant' in the imprint. Harris's most famous work, much admired by his contemporaries, and one of the most important linguistic works of the 18th century. Harris was secretary to the Queen. Engraved frontispiece by Basire. Dedicated to Philip Lord Hardwicke. With an index and a final advertisement leaf for Harris's Three treatises, first published in 1744. ESTC t146749; Alston: III.812.
