Copy Notes Page reference in pencil on front free-endpaper, probably by Soane, to a passage on p. 32 (Epistulæ, book II, epistle 7) on the value of public monuments, marked in the margin. Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper John Webber E Coll. Exon, with two library shelfmarks inked out; opposite title, Ex dono J. Webber A B / hujius Collegii Sojournarii / Anno 1715 and on title-page Coll. Exon. With armorial bookplate of Exeter College Oxford pasted down on verso of title. John Webber, son of Jonathan Webber of St Kew, Cornwall. Matriculated New Inn Hall 8 May 1711 at age 17, sojourner at Exeter College 15 January 1712 to 9 July 1715, BA 22 Feb 1715. Vicar of St Eval, Cornwall 1721. See C.W. Binding C18th blind-panelled sprinkled calf with blind-tooled thistles in central panel, red morocco spine-label elaborately gilt-tooled in bottom half. Chain staple holes on fore-edge of upper board.
