With an additional engraved allegorical title-page (sig. *1) reading 'Iustini Hist. Libri XLIV.', signed 'G. van Gouwen Sculp'. Apparently a reissue with cancel title-leaf of the sheets of the 1683 edition published in Leiden by Jacobus Hackius. Title-page with printer's engraved device and motto 'Nec Caret Arte'. The index ([108] pp. at end) has separate register. The final leaf (H4) is blank.
Copy Notes Bought from Thomas Boone for 3s. 6d., 24 November 1808. (Spiers Box). With Boone's price and codes in pencil on the engraved title-page, and another pencil cypher 4z0(?) on the rear free-endpaper. Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper Ri: Godfrey and in another hand E libris Gabr. [illegible]; also Em[m]an: 1743, presumably a reference to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and a further two lines in ink scored through and inked over.
Binding C18th mottled calf, blind double-ruled borders with blind-tooled corner-pieces, blind double-ruled spine with blind roll-tooling at head and foot, red morocco spine-label.
