Issued to accompany A collection of two hundred and fifty coloured etchings: descriptive of the manners, customs and dresses of the Hindoos, 1799 (q.v.) by the Belgian artist François Balthazar Solvyns, a Belgian artist who spent many years in Calcutta, producing drawings of the local people and their customs. ESTC t128067; Shaw 347.
Copy Notes Purchased together with A collection of two hundred and fifty coloured etchings at the Ealing Grove sale, 4 October 1815 for £18 10s. (John Robins sale catalogue, q.v.; Priv. Corr. XVI.E.3.2). There are pencil drawings of male figures, one a plasterer, on the recto and verso of the rear free-endpaper.
Binding C18th tree-calf, gilt double-rule spine, paper spine-label lettered in ink 'Catalogue of Solvyns/ Etchings', later black leather spine-label gilt-lettered '20'.
