A work of some historical importance by the author of the Ossian poems, drawing on papers collected by Thomas Carte and papers from the Scots College in Paris. Volume I: leaf *Pp4 (pp. 295--6) is a cancel. Life of James II from 1660 to 1690: vol. I, pp. 16--262. ESTC t96368.

Copy Notes Volume I front free endpaper inscribed in pencil 2 Vols. =14s= with cyphers in the hand of the bookseller Thomas Boone, from whom Soane almost certainly purchased the volumes. Earlier price in ink in a tiny hand on the front pastedown 2 Vo 1.18.0, with pencil inscription in another hand Hess 78.
