The author was assisted by Gregory King; engravings by Richard Gaywood, Francis Barlow, and Wenceslaus Hollar. The text, in seven books each with a divisional title-page, is continuous despite the pagination, and all but the five double plates are included in the sequence; some of the full-page plates have letterpress on the verso, some are wholly engraved. Page 513 misnumbered 213. With a final errata leaf. Sandford's Genealogical history became a standard reference work and was reissued in 1683; a second edition with continuations by Samuel Stebbing was published in 1707 (q.v.). Copy Notes Some of the full-page plates are misbound as follows: pp. 123--126 misbound 125--6, 121--2, 123--4; pp. 135--6 misbound to follow pp. 137--8. Inscribed in ink inside front cover: Martin Annesley; in pencil: 3/13/0. Dr Annesley was father of Francis Annesley, M.P. for Reading and first Master of Downing College.

Binding C18th mottled calf, blind double-ruled borders with quadruple fillet parallel to spine, blind double-ruled spine, later paper spine-label, spine-title in ink, marbled edges.
