Printed in 2 parts with separate pagination and register, the second consisting of chronological tables and a review by Michaelis of Niebuhr's first account of the expedition, translated from the German by Johann Bernhard Mérian. Michaelis, a theologian and orientalist at the University of Halle, played a key part in prompting the Royal Danish Expedition of 1761--1767. His Fragen an einer Gesellschaft gelehrter Männer, proposing research questions and guidelines for the expedition, were first published in Frankfurt in 1762, with the French translation first appearing in 1763.

Copy Notes Bought from Robert Faulder on 9 May 1806 in a uniform-bound set with the same author's Description de l'Arabie, Amsterdam 1774 (q.v.) and Voyage en Arabie & en d'autres pays circonvoisins, 2 vols, Amsterdam 1776--1780 (q.v.), for 6 guineas. (Spiers Box. Misc. Booksellers).

Binding C18th half calf, Kiebitzpapier sprinkled-paper boards, gilt roll-tooled spine, red morocco spine-label. Uniform with the copies of Niebuhr's Description de l'Arabie, 1774, and Voyage en Arabie, 1776--1780 (see above).
