One of a pair with XF317. With fluted outer border and inner frame reeded and bound with crossed ribbons at the cardinal points.
These two frames are the pair described in the Furniture and Fittings inventory as flanking the north door into the Morning Room. The measurement given in the inventory is less than the diameter of these frames but it is not clear whether it is the measurement of the mirror or the frame that is listed. The reflection of the convex mirror visible in the mirror to the left of the window in the 1884 engraving from The Graphic Magazine shows one of this pair. Scaling the size of these mirrors from Wild’s 1890 record drawing of the elevations of the Morning Room confirms that they are this pair.
In 2014 the frames were restored and new convex mirrors were made and in 2015 they were reinstated in their original positions in the recreated Morning Room as part of Phase 2 of Opening up the Soane.
