Curatorial note

With three drawers; each drawer front bordered by a cock bead and with two neat slender brass handles (one missing from bottom drawer) and a brass-lined keyhole; replacement lock to top drawer stamped ROGER AND SON HOLBORN SECURE 5 LEVEL; shaped serpentine apron at front and sides and bracket feet.

This piece does not appear in the Furniture and Fittings inventory of 1837 but seems the kind of piece that might have been banished to the Attics by that date. It is certainly the chest of drawers shown in J. M.Gandy’s the view of Soane’s bedroom in 1825 (Vol 82, 31) but does not match the description of the chest of drawers there in 1837 (see XF10).
