On the obverse is the laureate head of Emperor Francis I of Austria facing to the left surrounded by the inscription. This metal was struck to commemorate Francis I's visit to the Paris Mint by Dominique-Vivant Denon and Raymond Gayrard and is signed by them under the bust.
This medal was struck during the provisory government, shortly after Napoleon's abdication following his defeat at the Battle of Paris by the Allied forces in 1814 and subsequent exile to the Island of Elba.
