This tile or tile fragment is one of a large group of pieces of such tiles which are in the Museum but are not listed in its earliest inventories of 1837. They appear to have been chipped off a wall and it seems likely that they are the blue and white Dutch tiles which Soane installed to decorate a water closet on the second floor, where they were used in combination with printed blue and white 'Dutch tile paper'.
