A handle-ornament from a ladle or similar utensil, in the form of the head of a duck or goose
Browse
This head or outer end of a Roman ladle or kindred utensil is cast in the shape of a duck or goose's head with three bands at the neck above the break. Like the ram's head handle also in Soane's collection (Museum number DR9), this is a fairly common utilitarian, ornamental shape, and there are a number of such handles in unbroken state among the bronzes in the Louvre1.
