Curatorial note

Drawing made for exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1803. Exhib: RA 1803, no.562, described as View of a library now finishing in a villa on Ealing-green. This perspective view of a design, drawn by Gandy, shows interiors at Soane's own villa, Pitzhanger Manor, at Ealing, then close to completion. The fact that it is a design is subtly indicated by framing the view with theatrical curtains.
