It is possible that this watercolour, like the other view of a garden by the same artist (SM P246) depicts Mr Lock's park, at Leatherhead.
This drawing is listed on p.292 of the 1837 AB inventory (drawn up by George Bailey, Soane's chief clerk and then the first Curator) as No 91 in Drawer 45: A Landscape or Study of Trees by G.B. / qu.[ery] George Barrett R.A. 1'3" x 10½" . This entry is annotated [in George Bailey's hand] put into a frame No. 436 / Decr 1838, confirming that this drawing was not framed during Soane's time but framed shortly after his death.
