Curatorial note

The Royal Procession at the opening of the New London Bridge on 1st August, 1831: the picture features Sir John Soane himself, his housekeeper Sally Conduitt and other friends including Sir Francis Chantrey and J.M.W. Turner. The picture was supplied with a framed 'key' to those included which hangs beneath it. In the background is the Monument to the Great Fire of London.

Provenance help-art-provenance

Commissioned by Soane in 1831. He paid the artist for it on 17 August 1832 (correspondence in the Soane Archive).
