Samuel Bosanquet (1744–1806) was an English merchant and banker from a Huguenot family. He became a Director of the Bank of England in 1771. Soane probably met him first through his brother Richard Bosanquet, who Soane met when he was travelling in Italy. The two men must have met regularly after Soane was appointed the Bank's architect in 1788. Bosanquet was elected Deputy Governor from 1789 to 1791 and Governor from 1791 to 1793. He was succeeded by Godfrey Thornton, another Soane client. In 1793 Bosanquet resumed his place in the Court of Directors, and remained a Director until his death.
He commissioned Soane privately on a number of occasions, for a monument for his brother and significant alterations to his property, Forest House. After his death his family asked Soane to design his tomb in Leyton.
