Curatorial note
A panel with a moulding strip beneath. The carved area is enriched with scrolled acanthus, sunflower(s), and poppy leaves in conventional arrangement. The moulding at the bottom consists of water-leaf between two fillets. Another fragment in the Soane collection (M567/Vermeule 154) is a continuation of the right of this section.
Rome; collected in Rome by Charles Heathcote Tatham for the architect Henry Holland during the 1790s. See Cornelius Vermeule, unpublished Catalogue of the Antiquities at Sir John Soane's Museum, Introduction, transcription of Tatham letters, List 2, no.33.
