Curatorial note
Cast of a Roman composite pilaster capital (SM M13) carved with acanthus leaves and a pair of dolphins entwined around a central foliate stem.
This cast is a rare example of Soane having an object in his own collection replicated (another is the Pantheon pilaster capital). Although it would seem logical that this was done in order for the pair to be shown together there is no evidence that this was the purpose and at the time of Soane's death the cast and the orginal were shown in different parts of Soane's Museum.
