Lucius Verus was Roman Emperor from 161-169 AD. This cast is after an original marble now in the Louvre in Paris, number Ma 1170, dating from c.180 AD. The original was discovered at the Villa of Lucius Verus in Acqua Traversa, Rome, and acquired by the French from the Borghese collection in 1807. There is another very similar cast in the Thorvaldsen collection, Copenhagen.
We are grateful to Dr Jan Zahle, former Keeper of the Royal Cast Collection in Copenhagen, for his help in identifying this cast.
