Curatorial note

This is a cast from a terracotta Campana relief depicting canephori on either side of a six-tiered candelabrum in the British Museum (BM Cat.Terracotta D640). The figures are "basket bearers" (they have baskets on their heads). These canephori were young unmarried women in ancient Greece who held this honorific office and had the privilege of leading sacrificial processions at festivals. They face each other across an elaborate candelabrum.
