This ornament was designed as the scroll cresting forthe tops of cupboards in the interiors of the Four and Five Per Cent Office (later renamed the Consols Dividend Office), designed/executed 1793-1797. The scrolls were cast in plaster and painted to simulate wood. The same scroll ornament was used by Soane in the interior of the Privy Council Chamber, Downing Street.
