Preliminary design for bookcases for the gallery, c1763-68, unexecuted

These bookcases were not executed, but instead bookcases were installed along the walls (see Adam volume 39/1-2).

Other furniture in this room today includes ten long stools which were made for the room in c1768, and a collection of segmental tables, all of which were probably made to a design by Adam, although no drawings survive. There is also a suite of seat furniture, datable to 1775-80, from the tapestry room at Northumberland House; a commode by Chippendale (not designed by Adam); and a collection of nineteenth-century brass candelabra.
