The dining room (later the music room) is located on the principal storey of Robert Adam's central block, at the centre of the garden (south) front, between the library and the drawing room, and adjacent to the staircase, with the entrance hall beyond. It was converted into a music room in the 1820s, but Adam's interior decoration - with the exception of the chimneypiece - were preserved.

During the 1920s Adam-style curtain cornices and mirrors were added to this room. According to Harris, the curtain cornices were copied from an example at Luton Hoo, and the mirrors from examples in the library at Kenwood.
