Adam's design for a pianoforte case was not executed, and unlike his harpsichord case design, it was not illustrated in the Works in Architecture of Robert and James Adam.

This pianoforte case design is for a small instrument called a square piano, which was popular in England at this time, and a similar case was designed for Queen Charlotte in 1780.
