This chimneypiece was executed in the great dining room of the Governor's House, now The Highlanders Museum, at the southern end of the star-shaped fort.

Within the context of other chimneypiece designs of the 1760s which are inscribed in pencil in a similar way, it is possible that the pencil inscription on Adam volume 22/235, 11t House / Parlor / Back Parlor, might suggest that Adam had intended to reuse the design at the Adelphi. Indeed, the stiles on this design were duplicated in the chimneypiece of the dining room at 3 Adam Street (Adam volume 24/6). There is clearly some reuse of the design here, although Adam had previously intended this to take place in another room in another house at the Adelphi.
