Plans for a sepulchral chapel, Tyringham Hall, November to December 1800

This series of plans gradually refines the sepulchral chapel. There are three entrances, all have four-columned porches, and they are placed either side of the chapels, eliminating the problem seen on SM 47/3/27. As it must be assumed the chapel would be on a east-west orientation, the plan (SM 47/3/29) indicates the communion table would be at the east end, and the family side-chapel to the south-west (illustrated in perspective on SM 13/5/7).

Possibly SOANE, Sir John (1754--1837), architect
The Soane Office Day Book for 31 July 1800 has a brief phrase 'at Tyringham' on this day. This may be Soane, but as the plan is beautifully finished, it may have been made later in the office from a sketch made in situ.

The Soane Office Day Book records for 30 November that Gandy is working on a ‘View of the new / Church Tyringham’

Dec^r. 8^th: 1807. There are two different hands, one uses pen, and the other pencil. The proposed Tyringham project had finished by 1801 at the latest, and the pen may be an addition done in 1807 for placement in a volume. The plan conforms to those seen in late 1800 and should be placed at that time
The drawing and pencil inscription is probably from that date, with pen additions added in 1807
This is the probable date for the actual drawing

In the Soane Office Day Book Malton and Adams are drawing perspectives of chapels and a section for a 'Sepulchral Grotto' respectively, but nothing is mentioned of a plan for Tyringham, which the others usually include
