Preliminary designs, designs and a finished drawing for the first scheme for the house, 1775, unexecuted (7)

None of Adam's schemes for Schaw Park were executed. See scheme notes.

This scheme is composed largely of conservatories as screens to blank walls. Astley has noted that in these proposed enlargements, Adam mixed styles to give a picturesque effect, including neo-Norman, Tudor, neo-Palladian and castle-style.

Adam's elevation of the principal front (Adam volume 29/93) was clearly drawn as a finished drawing, and then altered. The drawing is composed of three sheets. The central sheet is part of a finished drawing which has been severely cropped, and new, less finished drawings have been affixed to either side.
