Lady Stanley circular closet was located on the first storey of the house, at the far end of the rear wing, above Lord Stanley's closet, and adjacent to the bedchamber and private staircase adjoining Lord Stanley's rooms on the floor below. A plan of the house can be found in the second volume of The works in architecture of Robert and James Adam (part 1, plate 1).

As the house was demolished in 1862, and this ceiling was not illustrated in the Works, it is not known if the circular closet ceiling was executed in accordance with Adam's extant design.

What is known, is that Lady Stanley's circular closet was decorated en suite with the adjacent bedchamber and dressing room in the Etruscan style. King has suggested that it had a domed ceiling, but this is not known.
