2nd scheme for the house, c1777, unexecuted

c1777
Like the first scheme for the house, this design was not executed, and comprises an interesting mixture of castle-style and classical elements. Of this particular design Rowan has noted that ‘the massing of the castle, with its high centre, corner turrets and projecting wings, flanking an entrance courtyard, may convey some sense of the likely appearance of the architect’s Palace for George III at Kew, had that been built’.
