The house was built in accordance with Adam's designs, and the fabric was completed in 1772.

Adam volume 44/14 is inscribed with the words Earl of Buckinghamshire for Mr Hobart implying that the house had been commissioned by the Earl for his brother. The accuracy of this is not known as the inscription is unique, and written long after Robert and James Adams' deaths in the hand of their brother William Adam.
