Designs for finishings to the drawing room, 16-21 October 1790 (3)

The drawing room has a chimney-piece at both of the segmental-arched ends. Three windows face south. A frieze ornamented with an anthemion and acanthus motif surrounds the room. Soane has altered the window on drawing 88.

A note by Soane on drawing 89 reprimands his pupil for failing to correctly copy a drawing. The pupil has included doors in his drawing where there should be windows and Soane is apparently incensed by the pupil's 'stupidity & shameful inattention'.

Soane sent five working drawings to 'Mr Holland' on 22 October 1790, including details of mouldings for the drawing room and a section of finishings for the drawing room. R. Holland was the carpenter/joiner at Bentley Priory. He also worked for Soane at Wimpole Hall from 1791 to 95.

The ground floor plan on the verso of drawing 85 is a design for a villa as published in Soane's 'Sketches in Architecture' (1793) as plate XIV and entitled 'House for an Artist'. The ground floor plan is the same as that design published but the 'office' in drawing 85 is shown as a library in the publication, and the dimensions of the rooms vary slightly.
