According to Bolton's inscription (F) on the drawing this ceiling design was intended for Admiral Boscawen's bed room, adjacent to the drawing room, on the east front of the ground floor. This room is now divided into a nineteenth-century entrance hall, and the new dining room. If we look at Leadbetter's plan for the house (drawing 1), it appears that the bow is located in the wrong place for this drawing to have been intended for Boscowen's bed room. This ceiling design was actually executed in the Chinese bed room on the first floor, spanning the original wall in Leadbetter's plan between Boscawen's bed room and the drawing room, and it remains in situ.
