Finished drawing for a sideboard for the great dining room in an Etruscan style, 28 October 1780, presumed to have been executed (1)

The date and Etruscan style of this design strongly suggests that it was intended for the great dining room, which was executed in 1781. Moreover, the unusual length of the sideboard table would have been suited to such a large room.

These objects are thought to have been executed, and sold at Christies in 1793, when the widowed Duchess divested herself of her late husband's belongings, and turned the house over to her bankers (see scheme notes).

It has been noticed by Harris that the urns and pedestals seen in this design are almost identical to those for Sir John Ramsden at Byram, Yorkshire (SM Adam volume 25/156).
