Record copies of working drawings for cornices, April 1792 (4)

The drawings were made in a slim volume (stout marbled paper cover with original coarse buff paper wrapper bearing a white paper label inscribed Ornamental Plaistering / 1791) of which the leaves are blank from f. 6 recto onwards. The preceding details in the album are of Soane's designs for cornices at Wimpole Hall and the vestibule of the Bank of England. Perhaps Meyer and/or Chawner had in mind something like master stuccoist Joseph Rose the Younger's volume of 331 details of 'Ornamental Frizes' (sic) that was prepared for the printer in 1782 but remained unpublished (in the RIBA Drawings Collection).

The cornices catalogued here are unremarkable, employing an egg and dart moulding for the bedroom, egg and dart and paterae for the drawing room and dentils for the hall.
