Dedicatory letter signed: D.T. i.e. Antoine de Torche, whose translation of Guarini's Il pastor fido (originally published Venice, 1590) was first published in 1677. This edition has parallel Italian and French text on the versos and rectos respectively; another edition by Troyel in the same year has the French text only. The additional engraved title-page by Abraham Blooteling after Zacharias Webber and 5 other full-page engravings by Blooteling are included in the pagination and register.
Copy Notes Former owner's armorial bookplate concealed by Soane's die-sinker bookplate. Front free-endpaper inscribed in ink Westby Gill and in pencil the price 1-6. Inscription in ink on front pastedown 386, and in pencil 1/6 and /w.
Binding C18th calf, gilt-panelled spine with cornerpieces and centre lozenge (flower vase), brown spine-label.
