Anonymous. A manual to the art of good conversation in the form of a series of dialogues, formerly attributed to Cardinal Richelieu or to the Abbé Bellegarde, but now believed to be by Pierre d'Ortigue de Vaumorière. Printer's woodcut device of a fox and bee’s nest with motto 'Qværendo', i.e. Abraham Wolfgang, Amsterdam? From the privilege leaf on p. [9], it would seem that this edition is based on the edition printed in 1688 by Jean Guignard. Page 313 is misnumbered 31. Signatures: *? A--O¹² P?. In the Soane copy quires *, B, L--P have horizontal chain-lines, quires A, C--K have vertical chain-lines.

Copy Notes Verso of rear front free-endpaper bears scribbled notes in pencil Jan 6 - 17/ 95.18.6/ Feb 6. 17.9- [?].

Binding Late C17th sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled spine with corners and centre lozenge, green and red sprinkled edges.
