The fourth collected edition of the works of Etherege, one of the pre-eminent writers of Restoration comedy. In three parts, each with an engraved frontispiece and special title-page with woodcut portrait medallion, and separate pagination and register. The three parts were also issued separately. 'The Comical Revenge; Or, Love in a Tub' was first published in 1664; 'She Wou'd, if She Cou'd' in 1668; and 'The Man of Mode; Or, Sir Fopling Flutter' in 1676. The first collected edition was issued in 1704. Title-pages printed in red and black. ESTC t52792.
Copy Notes Bought from Edward Lumley for 2s. 6d., 27 May 1829. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.26). Inscribed in ink on front pastedown by Soane 0/2/6 Lumley, and in pencil in another hand (presumably Lumley's) 2/6 and 673.
Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt borders, gilt-tooled spine compartments, red morocco spine-label.
