With a parallel title-page in English reading: Hudibras, a poem; by Samuel Butler, written in the time of the civil wars. Adorned with cuts. Second edition. Imprint on final page of vol. III: De l'imprimerie de Firmin Didot. Text in French and English on facing pages. Townley's translation into French of Samuel Butler's mock heroic poem first appeared in 1757. The 'Notes sur Hudibras' in each of the three volumes are by Pierre-Henri Larcher.

Copy Notes Bought from T. & W. Boone for 15s. on 1 July 1828. (Spiers Box).

Binding Later C19th calf, blind roll-tooled borders, marbled-paper boards, gilt-ruled spine. Payment of 5s. to George Richmond, bookbinder, 25 April 1853. (Curatorial papers/Bailey/Parcel 1). Several plates protected by tissue guards.
