Copy Notes Inscribed in ink (faded) on both title-pages John Soan / [vol. I only:]1780 suggesting that the two volumes were purchased separately and bound up later. Soane was in Italy between March 1778 and June 1780. The first essay ('Of Commerce' = 'Del Commercio') annotated in pencil by Soane giving translations.
Binding C18th tree-calf, gilt-ruled borders; Greek key gilt roll-tooled and gilt--ruled spine, green spine-label, red-sprinkled edges. Two volumes bound in one. Contemporary leather repair on front cover
