Ali Bey is the pseudonym of Domingo Badía y Leblich (or Leyblich), a Spanish traveller who posed as a Muslim and started from Cádiz (1803) on a journey through North Africa, Syria and Arabia. The eighty-five plates (excluding the unnumbered frontispiece portrait and four maps) are numbered I--XXXVII and XXXIX--LXXXIII with two bis plates (XII, XXVIII) and an unnumbered folding plate of 'El Aksa', the latter not called for. Plate 'XXXVIII' is a letterpress leaf printed in a Greek font.
