With a dedication to the Queen of Prussia signed by both the author and Christian Gottfried Schulze (1749--1819), 'Hofkupferstecher' in Dresden. The plates, which consist of views of artificial grottoes, ruins, hermitages, rustic shelters, garden altars, monuments and memorials, are signed as drawn and etched by Johann-Adolph Darnstedt (1769--1844), a pupil of Schulze working in Dresden from about 1784, who went on to become 'einer der vorzüglichsten Landschaftstecher Deutschlands' (see Thieme-Becker).

Copy Notes 'Das Seifersdorfer Thal, 3 nos.' was bought by Soane at Christie's on 16--17 February 1815 in a lot that also contained J.-F. Blondel's De la distribution des maisons de plaisance, 1737--38 (q.v.); Pierre Rousseau's Projet d'un palais national, 1790 (q.v.); and '3 Livraisons of the Encyclopedie relating to Architecture' (see marked-up copy of the sale catalogue in Christie's archive, p. 17, lot 54, where the hammer price is recorded as £1. 3s. 0.).

Binding C19th grey paper boards; endpapers watermarked 'J Whatman / 1818' (rear free-endpaper) and '1 / 1819' (front pastedown); paper spine-label inscribed in ink Becker / 1792.
